News : Expert US Doctor’s Response to Corona Virus Living on Inanimate Objects
CNN Teknologi Indonesia Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – The Eijkman Molecular Biology Institute responded to a statement from researchers from the US Health Agency (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention / CDC), which said the corona virus could last 5 minutes up to 9 days when attached to inanimate objects.
Head of the Eijkman Institute Amin Soebandrio said the statement referred to the corona virus in general such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome or MERS-CoV and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome or SARS.
However, there has been no specific study related to the spread of new corona virus outbreaks that occurred in Wuhan, China.
“That information [corona virus can live on inanimate objects] to corona virus in general,there is no specific SARS-CoV-2 [or better known as COVID-19], “Amin said when contacted.
However, there is a possibility of an object exposed to a virus carried by biological material such as sputum (phlegm, mucus that comes out when coughing from the respiratory tract above).
“But it’s possible, especially if with other biological material (sputum and so on). “In Indonesia it has not (the study of COVID-19),” concluded Amin.
A statement by the US Health Agency regarding corona that can stick to inanimate objects, based on research conducted on the SARS and MERS corona virus.
According to them, the virus can last for 5 minutes to 9 days if the objects are not disinfected.
So it is very possible that people contract the corona virus when it touches a contaminated surface, “then touches their mouths, nose, or eyes,” explains the CDC.
To date, the death toll from the corona virus outbreak is reported to reach 2,763 people worldwide. A total of 2,715 deaths came from mainland China, while 48 deaths outside the Bamboo Curtain Affairs.
While for corona virus infection in China there were 78,064 cases. The Chinese National Health Commission reported 406 new cases of the corona virus today. South Korea is still the country with the most corona virus cases after China. South Korea recorded 1,146 corona cases so far with 12 deaths.
